All attendees who are working within Peterborough City & County will be paid for their full-day participation through cost recovery (up to seven hours). You will pick-up and complete your cost recovery form at the registration table on the day of the event

About the Professional Learning Opportunity
Natural Curiosity (NC) is excited to launch a free in-person professional learning opportunity on the land, Cultivating Curiosity Through Connection: Nurturing Inquiry and Land-Based Learning for Early Childhood Educators Through Natural Curiosity in partnership with the Quality Inclusion Collaborative and the City of Peterborough. This program is exclusively for Educators/Staff working in Early Learning & Care in Peterborough City & County who wish to deepen and enrich their practice with transformative ideas that tie directly to Ontario’s framework for early learners.

What You’ll Learn
Together, our learning community will engage in knowledge-building that makes connections between Ontario’s pedagogical document, How Does Learning Happen?, and Natural Curiosity’s four-branch pedagogical framework and associated Indigenous lenses. As we delve into this inclusive space, we will actively weave theories of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) into our practice, ensuring that education is accessible to all, led by expert facilitators who represent a variety of lived experiences and diverse perspectives.

Tangible Takeaways from Workshops
Experience outdoor learning within inquiry explorations of plants, water, earth, spirit and sustainability through stories, art, movement and games and reflecting on your own identity. Potential activities include but are not limited to:

Developing outdoor learning skills through scavenger hunts and landscape inventories, encouraging children to observe and appreciate nature

Gaining insights into Indigenous worldviews and perspectives to inform teaching practices, fostering cultural understanding and respect among children

Creating nature-based art using collected items, promoting creativity and connections to the environment

Sharing stories related to water, resistance and advocacy to foster a strong connection with the natural world
