Describe a place in our natural world that you feel connected to.
I feel very connected to Lake Ontario. Throughout my life, I have spent considerable time exploring its shore and surrounding nature. Lake Ontario is the place where I go when I am feeling uncertain because it always guides me. I feel at ease when sitting on the rocks overlooking the vast lake and listening to the waves crash beneath me

Describe a place in our natural world that you feel connected to.
I grew up close to Sunnybrook Park where I loved to spend my time as a child. One of my favourite things was being able to see the horses there and appreciate their strength and beauty. It was a great place for me to connect with nature so young, and explore my local environment by going through the trails, and starting collections of the most interesting pinecones, sticks, and leaves I’d find around to take home with me.
Julia Coppa
Julia is a guest on Turtle Island and is a first-year teacher candidate in the MA Child Study & Education program at OISE. Julia has worked in several educational settings, such as mentorship programs and camp counselling. Describe a place in our natural world that you feel connected to.
Growing up in Uxbridge, Ontario I have the luxury to be constantly surrounded by trails, trees and open fields. The trails in my hometown in the Durham Forest are so serene and relaxing. I feel most connected when I am able to be alone with my thoughts and go on hikes through the trails. I also love to take my bike!
